22-01-2010 –Year 9 English Radio Drama Project

Last half term, a group of Y9s worked on a radio drama project in their English lessons, and produced scripts for a short radio drama on the theme of war. Their brief was to imagine they were a poet, known for being inspired by the experiences of soldiers and civilians affected by war, who had been asked to try their hand at a new medium, the radio play, and commissioned by BBC Radio 4 to write a programme with this theme.

Students listened to an example of the format, the recent afternoon play All Quiet on the Western Front, discussed ways to utilise the potential of the radio medium, invented convincing characters and planned and plotted their own scenes.

Following these lessons, they went into the school’s recording studio and acted out their drama in groups.
The students have produced moving, thoughtful and sensitively written drama, which focuses on a very wide range of contexts and experiences of war and conflict. We hope you will have a listen, and will enjoy what you hear!

The ICT computer suites have recently been completely refurbished using low power consumption technology. All computers have been replaced with mini ITX and all CRT monitors throughout the school replaced with low power lcd flat panels.
This has improved the teaching environment with the pupils having a lot more workspace and the added benefits of less cables and wires. Overall this will reduce the schools carbon footprint.
