During Mental Health Awareness Week we welcomed Radio 1 DJ Maya Jama to Chorlton High School in collaboration with Childline as part of a national awareness tour.

Maya, alongside plus-size model Felicity Hayward, celebrity hair stylist Aaron Carlo, and mental health advocate Penny Jarrett, hosted a conversation around their own life journeys and varied career paths. They discussed the ways their mental health has been affected, both whilst growing up and as they worked to achieve their career goals.
Our students were encouraged to ask questions during the event and our visitors took time to help and advise wherever possible, exploring issues such as being bullied socially and online. body confidence, diversity, inclusion and LGBT+ matters.

After the event, a selection of our students were  interviewed by Rowen Bridge, Reporter for BBC Radio 5live. They were asked to feedback on their session with Maya and discussed their thoughts and viewpoints brilliantly.
