Manchester City Council recently invited Mancunians to design one of six cast-iron drain covers to be installed in the new and improved Albert Square, helping to make it one of the finest civic spaces in Europe. In total there will be six cast-iron drain covers, each with a unique artwork design using this competition's winning designs.

Rose and Sylvia, Year 7 students, decided to take on this fantastic challenge, working through their concepts and designs during Art Box, ‘A weekly art club for young people, with an interest in art and getting creative’. The club, held in the White House building, Chorlton Park, provides an exciting opportunity to enrich and continue their creative learning beyond our classrooms. Both students worked alongside a designer to shape and refine their winning entry before receiving an invite to the Town Hall for a photoshoot with the other competition winners.

We are extremely proud of Rose and Sylvia, their winning design, and dedication to carry on their creative learning.
