Image of Year of Reading at CHS

From September onwards we will be celebrating the wonderful world of words with our CHS Year of Reading!

Our English department and librarians have developed a specific theme for each month, based on the work of a famous author, a particular genre or style of writing, ways to think about writing and literacy campaigns. At the end of the year we want everyone to spend a little more with books and using the written word to help spark their imagination and creativity.

To begin, for September we have celebrated the work of the author Roald Dahl in our English lessons, library and throughout our school. Students and staff took part in an after school quiz, with questions relating to the books, life and stories of Roald Dahl, both well-known and some obscure! Students have been getting creative by challenging themselves to make up the most interesting and funny 'Gobblefunk' words, as entries into a library competition. Any student who borrowed a book and the chance to find a hidden Golden Ticket, winning them a prize of chocolate and a special ‘ dining room ‘Queue Jump’ Golden Tie!
