Throughout the month of May, we will take part in the National Theatre Schools Romeo and Juliet Film Box project!

We are very excited to be chosen out of several schools up and down the country to receive these amazing resources and get to watch the film of Romeo and Juliet that was filmed at The National Theatre just before the last lockdown.

The film is a re-working of the original text and stars Jessie Buckley as Juliet and Josh O’Connor as Romeo. Year 9 drama students and year 8 English students will be delving into the delights the box has to offer each week and you can follow their journey on Instagram - @ChorltonHighDrama each Tuesday.

So far the students have re-created the Ball scene and choreographed our own techno dance sequence; whilst also learning about Commedia Dell’Arte and the importance of mask as an integral part of the play.

These re-imaginings of a Shakespeare classic has really helped the students to access what can often be a difficult and inaccessible text. We cannot wait to see what the box has to offer next!
